Sunset Lake

Hidden away in a quiet corner of Southwestern Wake County is a beautiful 125 acre lake surrounded by the communities of Sunset Lake, Sunset Lake Village and  Sunset Estates.

A Historic Lake, begins in 1822 when a natural granite channel was filled to become what was then known as Clements Mill Pond.  In 1923 a group of 50 Raleigh families purchased the property, repaired a then broken dam, restored the Lake and built a clubhouse.  This brand new facility became Sunset Lake Sportsman’s club and was the epicenter of family fun and recreation in the area.

Following the Depression, the property was sold several times.  A great drought in 1953 left Raleigh in a bad situation.  The Sunset Lake saved the day by providing two million gallons of water a day which was pumped from the lake and delivered to Raleigh by rail cars.  The mill was destroyed in a fire shortly thereafter.

Today, beautiful walking trails and landscaping surround the elegantly restored clubhouse that is now once again the epicenter for family fun and recreation for the communities surrounding the lake.  To inquire about renting the lodge at Sunset Lake click here
